About this event

SGSAH's annual Summer School is back for 2025 and once again taking a hybrid approach: online and in-person.


A series of live workshops and participatory sessions will be delivered across five days:

Online Days:

Thursday 19th and Friday 20th June

In-Person Days:

Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th June, plus a full-day KE Hubs 'Introduction to Broadcasting' workshop on Monday 23rd June.

The Year 2 Symposium is taking place in-person at the ARC on Monday 23rd June, where the Y2 SGSAH cohort will share with each other what they have been working on over the past two years.

We will also be hosting our Doctoral Research Showcase on 24th and 25th June, with reception/presentation event Wednesday 25th June 5.30-7pm. The showcase will be in the central atrium of the Advanced Research Centre.

We welcome anyone interested in Arts and Humanities PhD research in Scotland to come along to the research showcase.

Who is the SGSAH Summer School for?

The SGSAH Summer School is open to all Arts & Humanities PhD researchers based at SGSAH member HEI.

Where is it taking place?

19-20 June is online via Zoom; 24-25 June will take place at the Advanced Research Centre (ARC) building at the University of Glasgow (UofG), with the exception of one session at the UofG library. If you are signed up to attend the Broadcasting session on Mon 23rd, that will be held at BBC Scotland.

How do I get to the ARC building?

The workshop I want to attend is sold out—what can I do?

If a workshop is fully booked, you can select the ‘Waitlist’ option on the Eventbrite order form. You’ll then be prompted to enter the name of the session you’d like to join the waitlist for. If you don’t see this option, please email us at admin@sgsah.ac.uk with the session details.

I'm SGSAH-funded—do I also have to pay for in-person sessions?

Yes, in-person session require a small registration fee from all attendees, regardless of funding status.

Is lunch included?

Yes — a vegetarian buffet-style lunch (with vegan options) will be provided at the ARC Building on 24 and 25 June. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, please let us know using the relevant section on the Eventbrite order form.

How accessible is the ARC building?

Step-free access is available to L2, the building’s publicly accessible ground floor. Accessible and ambulant toilets are available throughout the building, along with gender-neutral facilities. For further accessibility information, please visit: https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/arc/accessibility/

Are travel expenses to attend in-person covered?

Reasonable expenses covering travel from your home HEI can be reimbursed following the event using the process laid out on the SGSAH website here: https://www.sgsah.ac.uk/current/travelguidance/
